As the term comes to a close, I have been asked to post my favorite photo from this term. This is a tough decision as there might be a few thousand photos at my disposal. But being the dog person that I am, there is one photo that stands out from all the others. I was sitting at home with one of my best friends, and my dog, Shotzi, wandered up to her and just plopped down in front of her. My friend began to massage and scratch Shotzi, and I noticed the face she was making. PURE HAPPINESS. Shotzi, a Boston Terrier, aged 12 My photo skills from the beginning of the year were decent, but not great. While they have improved (I finally figured out how to change my ISO!!) I still have a long ways to go. Fortunately I have a lot of opportunities to improve my shots.

My hometown is a city about thirty minutes from the California border, known as Klamath Falls. Its not much, mostly famous for the military base, its high crime rate, and having one of the best high school baseball teams ever. But its one of my favorite places to live. Living in Albany shows me that while I love the rain and the proximity to the cities of Oregon. But it doesn't have the jets constantly roaring overhead. When you hear that for years on end, you miss it when its gone. I had some excellent ideas for my hometown shoot, like having some airborne shots for the overall shot. But the only opportunity I had was foiled by bad weather, and a lack of camera knowledge. Just below the storm cloud, with the lumber mill next to the Klamath River.

My subject turned out to be several different people and the sport is obviously volleyball. I shot these far too late in the afternoon, and had to work to get them up to par. They were shot at the Linn-Benton volleyball courts I had to double up on the medium shots, for lack of a "true" overall shot. But they turned out far better than I originally thought.

Gabby Mathis is a freshman student at LBCC, working towards a degree that would allow her to become a Phlebotomist.  She used to be a exceptional athlete in Track and Field at Henley High School, however she chose not to pursue that path into college. Sorry its late everyone! It has been a really busy couple of days! I have been in this photojournalism class for about 3 weeks now, and I have taken some really good shots and some really bad shots. I'm really proud of the action shot I took the first week of class, the one of the baseball player jumping for first base. That one is my favorite. On the flip side of the spectrum, there have been HUNDREDS of bad photos. This Art show I attended, ended up being one of my worst series of shots. It was according to user error of course, as I forgot to account for the dark lighting and floodlights on the apintings Works by Dan Murnae and Cory Self at the Ekphrasis Art Show last Wednesday. Reading Its What I Do  is starting to look like one of the best decisions I've made in a long time. Im far more accustomed to reading books like Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings . But a recent timeline non-fiction book has gotten my attention for the first time ever. The amount of detail in the prelude shows a no-holds barred style of writing, with an attention to detail. The writing really makes it feel dangerous, and leaves readers with a cliffhanger that we don't get to resolve until later in the book. The pictures she took during the conflict in Libya are exceptional, showing the fear and uncertainty in many of the rebel fighters. Often these photos were taken just before a helicopter strafe or a bombing by government planes. Then when she is writing about her early life, she has the same style of writing. As this is the Internet, just call me Griff. Im a student at Linn-Benton, majoring in journalism. Im taking a journalism class, which prompted me to create this blog. I may not have much experience in photojournalism but I'M READY TO GO Super typical, but I have 3 big goals for this class, 1) To improve my photography skills and apply them in my endeavors with the Commuter. 2) Gain a better understanding of the First Amendment and how it affects news reporters. 3) Doing this has made me happy to go to class for once, I want to keep it that way. Then for next week, I'm planning on doing multiple shoots on Saturday (Baseball and Athletic Playday)   #25 Damon Peters jumps for first base after an excellent bunt up the third baseline. So, one of my favorite things to watch, when I am not at my parent's house, is anime. Now I'm not talking about the waifu bait, or any of the weird shit. I'm talking about Bleach, One Piece, Naruto and the like. These shows are realizations of art. Comics come to life. Unfortunately, they aren't always in English dubs, so I often have to watch with subtitles engaged. But this doesn't detract from the shows, they often improve it in my opinion. The dubs often just don't line up with the mouth movements of the characters But, there are positives to having to read these subtitles. I never miss anything, not matter how quiet. I do the same thing with my video games, subtitles on. On the other hand, movies almost never have subtitles. and with good reason! It can distract from what is going on in the picture.
